Business Mama is a short film written by Cynthia Fahlmann Nielsen. The film is a part of the Northern Script project, and its premiere was at the Oulu International Children’s and Youth Film Festival on the 23rd of November 2024. The workgroup consisted of OSAO’s students Miia Mahlakaarto, Olivia Nyholm, Ville Salmi, Yaren Göz, Kasper Määttä, Jasper Sirviö, Milka Halonen, Lenni Laine & Emmi Porkholm. Featuring Johanna Kauppi, Aatos Kauppi & Annabeata Kauppi as the actors.

Pre-production

The production of the film started with choosing the script which we had three of. With the help of teachers we ended up choosing ”Mama skal noget viktigt” (also known as ”Business Mama”) as it was the most doable. After assigning the roles and work tasks we started searching for suitable actors and a place where to shoot the film at.

Production

Shooting days went quickly over the span of three days. We had overestimated our schedule, hence the short days. We had to do very little set design, which helped as it was in use outside the shooting. There were some problems such as the kids not concentrating meaning we had to add or remove shots. Luckily our director knew how to work with kids.

Post-production

Lack of communication caused some delay, but with determination we got through it. The editing phase enhanced the limited material we had. Thanks to our editors, color specifier and sound person the final results turned out better than anyone would have expected. The whole process was a learning experience, and everyone definitely learned something new.
